Definition
Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 defines gifted students as "children and youth with outstanding talent who perform or show the potential for performing at remarkably high levels of accomplishment when compared with others of their age, experience, or environment." (National Association for Gifted Children, United States Department of Education, 1993)

Philosophy
The philosophy of the Gifted and Talented Program for Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 is that academically gifted students will receive high quality learning experiences that maximize individual potential and fosters each individual’s value, uniqueness and importance.

The Gifted and Talented Education Program, in coordination with the Illinois Legislation will provide, differentiated and challenging opportunities for high achieving students who are identified as Gifted and Talented, regardless of economic status, ethnic origin, gender or physical disability.

Mission Statement

We believe administrators; teachers, parents and students should collaborate to provide services to all academically gifted and talented individuals.  It is further acknowledged equal opportunity does not mean identical opportunity

It is the mission of Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 to provide a Gifted Education Program that:

  • fosters a high quality education to help meet the physiological, social, educational and career needs of academically gifted and talented students.
  • encourages students to become capable of intelligent choice, independent learning, problem solving, and self-initiated action.
  • strengthens skills and abilities in critical and creative thinking.
  • brings capable and motivated students together for support and intellectual stimulation.
  • maximizes students' learning and individual development while realizing their potential and their contribution to self and society.
