The community is invited to hear the best of District 202’s high school choral and instrumental musicians at the 2013 Solo and Ensemble Contest.
The public is invited to an Honors Recital at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2013, in the Plainfield South High School auditorium, 7800 W. Caton Farm Road, Plainfield. There is no charge for admission.
More than 300 District 202 high school musicians will participate in the solo and ensemble contest.
All District 202 high school band and choir students will be judged in various vocal and instrumental categories from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m., during the morning’s festival activities. This portion is not open to the public.
Community members are invited to then hear top performers from each category who will be selected to perform in the culminating Honors Recital, starting at 1 p.m.
Judges for the Solo and Ensemble contest will include top band and choral professional performers and teachers. Each performing solo or ensemble will be given 15 minutes to perform a repertoire of their choice and to clinic with their judge.
“The District 202 high school music directors have found this interactive feedback to be really valuable to the students as they continue to improve in their musicianship and performance practice,” said Plainfield North High School Director of Choirs Jason Hawkins.
