Full Day Kindergarten (updated 1-29-2018)

(posted 1-24-18)

(UPDATED 1-29-18)

District 202 will offer its limited full day kindergarten program again next year.  However, District 202 still does not have enough space to provide full-day kindergarten to the 1,500 students expected to be eligible for kindergarten next year.

Therefore, District 202 will again hold a random, computerized lottery for full-day kindergarten for the 2018-19 school year. In all, 408 full-day kindergarten spaces will be awarded – 24 students at each of the district’s 17 elementary schools.

The Lottery Application is now available and will be open until 5 p.m. February 9, 2018.

The actual lottery will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, February 16, 2018. Applicants will be notified of their status on February 16, 2018.

***All students must be five years old on or before September 1, 2018, to attend kindergarten, per state law.

  • Each family can complete only one lottery application.  Families with multiple kindergarten students will complete one application including the names of all prospective students.  This application will create individual lottery entries for each child.
  • Families without Internet access may register online at their child’s homeschool on any regular school day from 9 a.m. January 29, 2018 to 3 p.m. February 9, 2018.
  • Families will apply for the lottery to attend their home school. ***PLEASE NOTE: several subdivisions will attend different schools in 2018-19 than they currently attend, based on attendace zone boundary changes approved on January 22, 2018. This chart shows the names of those subdivisions, their current home schools and their home schools for next year.
  • Students chosen for this program must complete the registration process by April 6, 2018 or they will lose their slot.

Full-day kindergarten tuition will be $100 per month in addition to the one-time $90* kindergarten registration fee. The $100 monthly tuition will help offset the cost of the additional staff and resources needed to offer the full-day kindergarten program.
