Overview and History

The Plainfield South High School Band program consists of three curricular concert bands: Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble. In addition, students in the PSHS bands participate in marching band, jazz band, pit orchestra, and chamber ensembles. Music theory, survey, and technology classes are also offered through the department.

The PSHS Band Program originated with the opening of Plainfield South High School in 2001 and has already established a reputation for success. The marching band received second place honors both at the 2006 Falcon Marching Festival held at Wheaton North H.S and at the 2005 Marching Mustang Festival held at Downers Grove South H.S. The Symphonic Band received Superior Division I ratings at the 2006 and 2007 Midwest Music Festival at Lemont H.S. and the 2007 Chicagoland Invitational Concert Band Festival held at Hersey H.S. The PSHS Pep Band was also selected to perform at the 2007 and 2009 IHSA State Girls Volleyball Tournament.

The PSHS Bands have traveled to perform in various locations throughout the United States. Recent trips include Orlando in 2009 and 2005, as well as New York City in 2007.
