Questbridge Scholarships
The Questbridge Scholarship is now accepting applications. This scholarship is targeted at Seniors who have demonstrated academic excellence and come from households earning less than $60,000 annually. Questbridge has partnered with some of the best, well-known, prestigious, colleges. They offer full four-year scholarships to cover tuition, room and board.
Demographics of past recipients:
-Average ACT score of 30
-92% of recipients were in the top 10% of their class
-79% had a household income of $40,000 or less
-76% were first generation to attend college in their family
As you can see, this scholarship is targeted at a very specific population. However, with the economy as it is, there may be more families that fall into this category. The online application is free and can be found at www.questbridge.org It is due September 30, 2011 and does require several different pieces in order to be complete. Please plan on starting this right away if you qualify. You can also contact Questbridge directly if you have questions: questions@questbridge.org

FairTest
Are you concerned that your ACT score might limit the colleges that you would be able to attend? If so, check out: http://fairtest.org/
This website de-emphasizes the use of standardized testing in the college admissions process. There is even a list of school that don't use standardized test scores at all in their admissions procedures. Take a look through. Many schools feel that GPA, involvement, and personal statements tell much more about a student than their ACT score.

ROTC Scholarships
I have recently had a few questions regarding the ROTC scholarships. Branches of the military will offer scholarships to eligible high school students to attend a college/university prior to starting their enlistment period. Students who commit can attend college debt-free and upon graduation would then go into their respective branch of the military for a pre-determined enlistment period (number of years will vary). The deadlines for these scholarships are quite early (December 1 for Air Force, January 10 for Army) so students that are interested should check out the following websites as soon as possible to get started:
Army: http://www.goarmy.com/rotc/scholarships.html
Air Force: http://www.afrotc.com/scholarships/
Navy: http://www.rotc.com/navy-rotc-scholarships/
