Artwork by five Lincoln Elementary School students was honored at the state level in the National PTA Reflections art program this spring.
The National PTA Reflections program encourages children in all grades to create an original work on a common theme in any medium.
This year’s theme was “Within Reach.”
These students’ drawings were displayed at the annual “Spotlight” event at Millikin University in Decatur on May 6, 2018:
McManaman also earned an honorable mention for her short story in the literature category.
Each unique drawing incorporated the five artists own dreams for the future, diversity and an overall theme of unity. The students also said they felt more confident in their ability to draw after their work was honored in the contest.
“I’ve never really thought I was a good artist but this makes me feel accomplished and special,” Lowell said.
Lincoln Elementary School art teacher Lisa Worsley said she is very proud of the five students. “You are all such good artists and you’ve grown so much, I’ve seen you grow,” Worsley told the students.
This is the third year Lincoln Elementary School students have had artwork reach the state level.
Kovalcik’s drawing also is on the cover of Lincoln’s 2017-2018 school yearbook.
The other drawings are on the yearbook’s back cover.
