Veteran D. 202 educator is new Drauden Point MS assistant principal

Drauden Point Middle School 8th grade Language Arts teacher Debbie Odegaard-Carpenter will serve as the school’s new assistant principal next year.

She will replace current assistant principal Kristin Mate who has accepted a position in another district.

Odegaard-Carpenter started her education career in 1992, as the English as a Second Language teacher at Lace Elementary School in Darien, Illinois. She came to District 202’s Grand Prairie Elementary School in 1993 teaching sixth grade math, science and social studies.

She moved to Timber Ridge Middle School in 1996 to teach 6th grade math, science and social studies, and then 7th and 8th grade social studies and language arts in 1998.

Odegaard-Carpenter has worked at Drauden Point Middle School since 2000, first as a differentiation specialist and then as an 8th grade language arts teacher since 2003.

“Plainfield District 202 is a special place where marvelous students, families, teachers, and support staff work side by side, using everyone’s potential, in the pursuit of excellence,” she said.

“I am humbled and fortunate to continue to grow and work with the dedicated and supportive Drauden Point Middle School community,” Odegaard-Carpenter said.

Drauden Point Principal Kai Freeman praised his new assistant principal as a well-respected educator and person.

"I am looking forward to working with Deb at Drauden Point,” Freeman said.  “I know her contributions to our administrative team will benefit our school and District 202 as a whole.”
