The Great Read

The Great Read promotes literacy, reading, conversation and community in the greater Plainfield area.

The program started in September 2004 as "Reading Across Plainfield" as a one-time program between District 202 and the Plainfield Public Library about government censorship, based on Ray Bradbury's science fiction classic, "Farenheit 451."

In 2008, Reading Across Plainfield became "The Great Read." Participants expanded over several years to eventually include all of the public libraries serving District 202 and nearby communities, to encourage broader community participation, better reflect the areas served by the participating organizations and emphasize the program’s literary focus.
