SPECIAL DISPATCH - Proposed Attendance Zone Changes December 13, 2017

MESSAGE FROM DISTRICT 202

December 13, 2017 (8 p.m.)

Education Partners,

District Administration tonight presented its Proposed Attendance Zone changes to the Board of Education's Personnel, Policy and Administration committee.

The full Board of Education will receive the same Administrative Recommendation as an informational item at its December 18, 2017 regular meeting. The Board is not expected to vote on the Recommendation at this meeting.

Please click on the link above for more information including the actual proposal and the timeline for this process.

Meanwhile, here are a few Key Points.

THE ADMINISTRATIVE RECOMMENDATION:

  • Moves only about 280 current elementary students in eight of the 17 elementary schools:
    • Meadow View, Wesmere, Walker's Grove, Grand Prairie, River View, Crystal Lawns, Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson
  • Takes effect in Fall 2018
  • Does NOT affect Middle and High School assignments
  • Creates elementary enrollments of between 531 and 692 students at 14 of the 17 elementary schools. (Crystal Lawns, Grand Prairie and Walker's Grove are all smaller schools with lower enrollments)
  • Makes geographic sense
  • Yields optimal space for special education, English Language Learners and Honors programs
  • Allows for anticipated steady growth to be absorbed without additional major attendance zone changes for the foreseeable future

Community members will be able to comment at all of the Board's regular public meetings, and through a special email address that will be posted Tuesday, December 19, 2017.

Thanks, and have a good evening!

Tom Hernandez
