SPECIAL DISPATCH - Bd. President's Statement Re: Custodial Outsourcing February 23, 2016

MESSAGE FROM DISTRICT 202

February 23, 2016

Education Partners,

Board of Education President Michelle Smith read this statement into the record at last night's Board meeting, to address concerns and correct misinformation about the work being done to research the possibility of outsourcing custodial services.

Please read the entire statement when you have time, but here are the main points:

  1. "The Board of Education has made no decisions about outsourcing. In fact, we have not solicited any bids regarding outsourcing."
  2. "If the Board of Education decides to outsource, we will require the selected provider to offer employment to qualified current PASS members before the start of the contract."
  3. "If the Board of Education decides to outsource, we will require the selected provider to provide qualified current PASS members with benefits comparable to what they currently receive."
  4. "If the Board of Education decides to outsource, we will continue to require that all custodial staff pass a stringent legal background check as required by law for all employees who work directly with or around children."

We hope this at least clarifies the Board's intentions and plans a little bit.
