SPECIAL DISPATCH - Proposed 2017-18 budget posted July 18, 2017

MESSAGE FROM DISTRICT 202

July 18, 2017

Education Partners,

The proposed 2017-18 budget is now posted on the front page of the district website, and will remain there for public review for 30 days as required by law. We also posted some additional information for your reference.

The Board of Education will hold a public hearing on the proposed budget at 6:30 p.m. Monday, August 21, 2017 at the District Administrative Center, 15732 Howard Street, Plainfield. The Board is then expected to vote on the budget that same evening.

QUICK BUDGET OVERVIEW:

  • We project an Operating Fund deficit of about $9.3 million because of decreasing local and state revenues and increasing costs (mostly salaries and benefits.)
  • We will be able to cover the deficit from budget surpluses, however...
  • The state's political/budget problems continue to play havoc with our state funding, as we wait to see if the governor will veto a new funding formula as he has promised to do.

***In any case, school will open and operate as normal. If needed, we will borrow money by selling tax anticipation warrants (essentially short-term loans) or through other means.***

Thanks, and have a good day/week.
