(From left) Meadow View Elementary School lunchroom supervisors Lisa Pape, Laura Lewis, and Gina Krejci put together a plastic desktop divider in a kindergarten classroom on Thursday, October 1, 2020. District 202 school staff are preparing for when students return to class later this month.

Hello, District 202 Education Partners,

We hope you had a good week. Here is this week’s selection of D. 202 news and information:

This Week's Highlights

  • Our second “D. 202 Talks” pod/videocast this year addresses the District 202’s many efforts to support our students’ social-emotional needs so they have every chance for success in school. This topic is especially critical now during the pandemic.
  • Unfortunately, the 69th annual Plainfield Community Homecoming Parade that would have been held tomorrow, was cancelled because of the pandemic.

However, many families and staff shared pictures of themselves and their students in their Homecoming finest!

Please continue to send us your Homecoming photos to commrelations@psd202.org

  • A federal judge has extended the deadline to complete the 2020 Census until October 31st, (for now, anyway.)

So, again, please take a minute to complete the Census if you haven’t already. This is critically important to our state and community:

Please go to http://my2020census.gov, and THANK YOU!

  • Dr. Abrell also discussed the plan to return students to in-person learning on WJOL (1340 AM) earlier this week.

Week in Review

These District 202 social media posts got the most attention and feedback this week:
facebook image from facebook Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lane Abrell updated the District 202 Board of Education on the status of the district’s “Return ‘20” plan at the Board’s September 28, 2020 regular meeting. Here are the key points: • District staff will return to schools on October 15, 2020 • Prekindergarten through 12th grade multi-needs special needs students will return to in-person learning on October 26, 2020... • Preschool and kindergarten students will return the week of November 2, 2020 • Older students would return in small grade-related groups between November 16, 2020 to January 19, 2021. • The timing for each new group to return will depend on the successful return of the prior group. • Families will receive additional details about returning to in-person learning as their students’ return approaches. • Parents will be surveyed in advance of their students’ targeted return date about their intent for their child to return, to allow for appropriate staffing. • Students will be divided into “A” and “B” groupings for attendance, to limit the number of students in school at one time • Busing will be provided • Sit-down, traditional lunch will not be provided; grab-and-go breakfasts and lunches will be provided • All students and staff must wear masks inside buildings except those with appropriate medical exemptions • School could close again if conditions worsen. The length of and response to such closures will depend on specific circumstances. Read more: http://www.psd202.org/news/1575 #202proud
