SPECIAL DISPATCH - Important -- "Late Start" Schedule Eliminated October 5, 2015

October 5, 2015

Several years ago, District 202 developed a “Late Start” option as part of our overall School Closing plan.

The idea was to be able to open school two hours later – rather than close school altogether -- when the weather was bad, but not terrible, or if it looked like the weather might improve early in the school day.

However, after further study this fall, it is now clear that a “Late Start” schedule will not work for us because of two significant transportation-related challenges:

  • Our triple-tier busing system and
  • The many out-of-district and off-site educational programs serving District 202 students.

When you factor in our size, it is nearly impossible to make a “Late Start” schedule work.

Please rest assured that we will do our best to be thoughtful and close school only when necessary for the safety of our students and staff, based on the best information available at the time. We will notify families as soon as it is practical to do so.

With that in mind, please always plan for school to be open. We will notify you if school is to be closed through our Connect-ED system, web sites and the local and regional broadcast and print media.

Thanks very much.
