A Central Elementary School kindergarten student drops off a flag drawing made for Veterans Day. The school gave the drawings to the American Legion Post on Renwick Road in Plainfield.

Hello, District 202 Education Partners,

Hope you have had a good week. Here is today’s selection of D. 202 news and information:

*This week's numbers appear to have declined, however, the district is tracking only cases for students and staff who are in-person at district schools/facilities for either instruction, athletics, or activities. As of this week, staff have the option to work remotely, all students are in remote instruction and all other sports and activities are paused.

  • Please review our special "Covid-19 Parent Handbook" to help families understand the pandemic, official health guidance, rules, our efforts to keep students and staff safe, etc.

This Handbook is posted on the Covid-19 Information page on our website, among other places. It will be updated as needed.

This Week's Highlights

  • The Board of Education will meet in regular session on Monday, November 23, 2020. The meeting will be held virtually because of ongoing pandemic-related safety concerns. Public session will start at 7:30 p.m.

Week in Review

These District 202 social media posts got the most attention and feedback this week:

Timber Ridge Middle School seventh graders in Joy Carcione's Language Arts classes showed off their baking chops by making chocolate cake.

The students are studying "The Outsiders" novel by S.E. Hinton. The students worked hard during this quarter so Carcione rewarded them with a showing of "The Outsiders" movie while eating their chocolate cake.

Chocolate cake is part of the novel and is symbolic of the main characters loss.

The cake also connects the characters because they all enjoy chocolate cake for breakfast.
