MESSAGE FROM DISTRICT 202
50x4

Hello, District 202 Education Partners,

Here we are, at the tail end of 2020, excited to welcome a new year. With sincere wishes for a great 2021, here is today’s selection of D. 202 news and information:

  • Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lane Abrell tentatively plans to announce a new schedule for returning to in-person learning at (or maybe slightly before) the January 11, 2021 Board of Education meeting. Listen to a recent interview on  WJOL (1340 AM) radio.

There is a misconception, based on a video on social media, that the CDC is directing schools to open. The CDC does not have that authority. Rather, the CDC provides guidance to schools to assist with their decision-making process

Among other important points, the CDC emphasizes that schools must consider their impact on the greater community when planning to re-open, as COVID-19 is a community health issue.

  • Please continue to review our special "Covid-19 Parent Handbook" to help families understand the pandemic, official health guidance, rules, our efforts to keep students and staff safe, etc.

The Parent Handbook is one of several resources posted on the Covid-19 Information page on our website to help families while we are in remote learning. Please continue to review these materials.

TOP SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS

These District 202 social media posts got the most attention and feedback this week:
facebook image from facebook Liberty Elementary School third grade teacher Jeanette Denton realized her students constantly wanted to share stories during remote learning. So now she sets aside time each week to do just that. “I feel like there is never enough time to stop and be able to share stories, update each other on what is going on in our lives or the fun things students are doing, so I decided to create Fun Thursday,” Denton said. During her lunch break every Thursday, Denton spends about an hour on Zoom with her students. Fun Thursday is optional for students, but Denton said many attend each week. Each week, Fun Thursday activities are a little different, but the goal is always the same – to help her students connect with one another, Denton said. “I want the students to know I am a trusted adult they can come and talk to if they have any problems,” Denton said. “I am more than a teacher who sits there and teaches lessons and gives assignments, I want them to know that I care about them and I want to hear about what interests them,” she added.
