Second D. 202 Census program cancelled

The second of two programs to educate the community about the 2020 Census scheduled for March 18, 2020 has been cancelled because of concerns about COVID-19/Coronavirus.

This program may be rescheduled later this spring.

However, District 202 still strongly encourages community members to complete the 2020 Census online or on smartphones as soon as possible. Community members started receiving letters from the Census Bureau last week with personalize online access codes.

The Census Bureau will also mail paper copies of the questionnaire to those who do not complete it online.

Respondents will be able to complete the Census immediately, however, April 1, 2020 is designated as “Census Day.” Forms completed early should reflect where the respondent(s) and related family are living on April 1, 2020.

The United States Constitution requires that everyone be counted every 10 years. Census information is then used to determine Legislative representation and Will County’s share of $675 billion in federal funds.

Will County is in line for $219 million based on the 2020 Census results. That money helps pay for roads, education, healthcare and public safety, among other important community investments.

By law, Census information is confidential. It cannot be shared with any other entity including employers, landlords, other governmental agencies or immigration services.
