Plainfield School District 202 proudly hosted its third annual Women Empowerment Event on March 10, 2026, welcoming more than 50 female student leaders from across the district to the District Administration Center.

The event is a cornerstone of District 202’s commitment to broadening horizons for our students. By connecting young leaders with successful professionals in traditionally male-dominated fields, the district aims to challenge stereotypes and ignite new ambitions.

This year’s guest speakers represented a powerhouse of expertise in strategic planning, industrial management, and emergency services. Students gained firsthand knowledge from:

  • April Spence: Senior Strategic Planning Analyst at CITGO

  • Pam Subiate: Area AA/QC Manager at STARCON

  • Taylor Messer: Matteson Firefighter and proud Plainfield East High School alumna

Attendees also asked the speakers questions and found more about their career journeys, the importance of resilience, and the reality of working in underrepresented sectors.

This event is a direct reflection of District 202’s Strategic Plan for Student Success. Academic excellence is only one part of the equation, and true preparation for the future requires meaningful exposure to diverse college and career pathways.

Through initiatives like this, District 202 continues to ensure that every student graduates with a clear vision of their potential and the confidence to navigate any path they choose.
