Project SEARCH celebrated its students who completed the program and the adults who gave back to the job training program at a ceremony in May.
River View Elementary School Principal Kelly Gregoire was honored with a Pathways to Inclusion for Project SEARCH Award at the event on May 21.
These six students from the 2026 program were also recognized for completing the program:

Gregoire was recognized for hiring a Project SEARCH student, Wayne “Ike” Smith, in her building. She is the only principal in District 202 who has hired a Project SEARCH student.
Smith is entering his second year as a custodian at River View.
Gregoire consistently makes sure Wayne has the necessary supports to thrive in the workplace, said Megan Kobliska, Project SEARCH instructor.
“Your leadership and belief in inclusive employment have made a meaningful difference, and we are deeply appreciative of the opportunity and support you have provided,” Kobliska said.

The national Project SEARCH High School Transition Program pairs students with disabilities with internships in workplaces such as hospitals, banks, or universities.
District 202 started the program in 2015. The district partners with UChicago Medicine AdventHealth in Bolingbrook to offer students the opportunity to work in various departments.
During the past two years, all the Project SEARCH students have found jobs in the community. Thirteen students are enrolled for the 2026-2027 school year.
The program is funded with a federal grant and relies on partnerships with the hospital, Trinity Services Inc., and the State of Illinois Department of Human Services/Division of Rehabilitation Services from Rehabilitation Services Administration.
