Plainfield East High School teachers and staff hosted a St. Baldrick’s Foundation head-shaving fundraiser at the high school on March 20, raising over $5,000, for childhood cancer research.
The event was held during halftime at the annual staff vs. student basketball game.
PEHS assistant athletic director Anthony Waznonis and staff member Samuel Jackson organized the event.
“It is important for us to remember kids who have had cancer as children,” Waznonis said.
Waznonis said PEHS senior girls’ basketball player Addison Haughian was diagnosed with neuroblastoma as a child.
“Addison beat the cancer and is thriving and is about to graduate from Plainfield East,” he said.
Waznonis believes the event is a wonderful way to cultivate empathy and raise awareness about childhood cancer.
The school would like to expand the event next year to include students as well.
The PEHS teachers and staff members who shaved their heads include Waznonis, Jackson, Dave Jackson, Ryan Ferrin, Angela Powell.
The Barber Cave donated their services to the event.
Autism Acceptance Month Display
In recognition of Autism Acceptance Month, the Plainfield East High School Building Autism Team (BAT) created a beautiful display in the building’s main entrance.
It says acceptance is an action. What are you doing to help it grow?
PEHS students and staff will have several opportunities this month to interact with displays around the building, with the goal of moving each person in their personal continuum of Autism Awareness: Awareness, Acceptance, Appreciation, Empowerment, or Advocacy.
Home Access Center will be down today (4/1/25) for scheduled maintenance.
It’s Read Across America Week!
On Wednesday, 33 student athletes from the Bengal Athletic Leadership Council (BALC) shared the love of reading with Elizabeth Eichelberger students.
The students visited the elementary school and inspired young readers by reading books and engaging them in stories.

The Plainfield East High School Latin American Student Organization (LASO) attended the Chicago Fire home opener @Soldier Field against @D.C. United on Saturday, March 1.
The Fire tied United 2-2, and PEHS alumnus Mauricio Pineda '16 (Chicago Fire #22) took the field in the second half of the game.

Congratulations to these District 202 Project SEARCH students who, on Tuesday, celebrated the end of their internships at UChicago Medicine Health in Bolingbrook. These students worked in a variety of departments in the hospital during the program. #202proud
Congratulations, Ethan! PEHS senior Ethan Cristobal earned 15th place at the 2025 USA Archery Indoor Nationals in Wheaton, Illinois on Sunday, February 23.
Earlier this month, Cristobal won the gold medal and highest scorer in the Olympic Recurve Male Category at the 2025 USA Archery Indoor State Championship.

Plainfield East High School’s Bengal Boutique is thrilled to celebrate 15 years of helping students shine on their special day.
Bengal Boutique offers PEHS students the opportunity to browse a gorgeous selection of free dresses for prom and formal dances, shoes and accessories in a boutique style setting.
The boutique now also provides professional wear for men and women.
"The Bengal Boutique is such a wonderful tradition,” PEHS creative arts division chair Cortney Troy said.
“This year, we are excited to extend it to the business world. Our hope is to ensure that all students have access to valuable experiences without needing to worry about any financial constraints,” Troy said.
